Game files are only getting bigger and bigger, is 500GB really enough for the Xbox One? The Xbox Series S only has 364GB of useable storage, I urge you to get the 1TB not the 500GB
If you play a lot of games 500 GB is not enough storage. Most Xbox One games will be at least 45 GB of storage with Red Dead Redemption 2 being 107GB with the disc. To increase your storage you can upgrade your Xbox One 500GB HDD to 1TB or use an external hard drive.
I am constantly deleting games I don’t want to delete, trust me it’s not a nice feeling! I will explain why 500GB is not enough memory, how many games 500GB can store, and why 1TB is better than 500GB. Read on to find out!

Why Xbox One 1TB Is Better Than 500GB
Xbox One 1TB future proofs the console, games will only continue to get bigger, with a 500GB model you constantly will delete games to make space, and 500GB gives less freedom as a gamer.
Games Will Continue To Get Bigger
Games are getting bigger and bigger, a big game from Xbox 360 is 5GB like Bioshock 1, now a AAA game will be around 100GB! If you buy digital games it’s even worse! Red Dead Redemption 2 takes a massive 144GB if you download it without the disc nearly 1/3 of your 500GB!
If you want to know the positives and disadvantages of physical vs digital games check my post here.
I remember on my Xbox 360 and PS3 I never had to delete games to make room for new ones, this isn’t the same with Xbox One and PS4 as you will find out if you buy a 500GB Xbox One.
1TB isn’t even a lot as most games will be around 45-100GB but it’s a heck of a lot better than 500GB! PS5 and Xbox Series X games are huge, Call Of Duty Cold War is 136GB on Xbox!
More storage is always better, 1TB gives freedom to download next-generation games with larger file sizes.
You Will Always Delete Games To Make Space!
With my series S I have a constant battle of deleting games, to make space for new ones doesn’t sound too fun does it?
This is fine if your like me and only play 1 main game until you finish it, but what if you enjoy using services like Xbox Game Pass and try out new games?
If that sounds like you, I do not recommend buying a 500GB Xbox. buying a 1TB gives far more freedom to play the games you enjoy playing, not choosing which one of your favorite games to delete.
The best option is buying an external hard drive for your Xbox One, external hard drives are very affordable now and this Seagate hard drive from Amazon is 2TB giving you space for around 44 Xbox games. What’s not to like?
However, if you see yourself as only playing 4-5 games max 500GB is fine, I still recommend buying an external hard drive as it future proofs your console. you can still play the more memory-hungry next-generation games.
500 GB Gives Less Freedom As A Gamer
Imagine this, you see one game you want for FREE on games with Gold or Game Pass but you don’t have enough space for it? Oh MY, the horror! I’ve felt this pain before.
I had to delete save data but what if I wanted to play the game again? It was just too much of a hassle and getting that 1TB makes things easier. Get the best selling Xbox One 1TB here for a great price on Microsoft, Go ON double is always better!
There are just too many great games on the PS4 to miss out on, if you want my GAMERS guide to the best 42 Xbox One games please click here.
Having more space gives you freedom in how you use your Xbox One and who doesn’t want more freedom in life?
IF you get the digital-only Xbox One(more inf) more memory like an external hard drive or upgrading your SSD becomes a necessity
How Many Games Can 500GB Xbox One Hold?
500GB will fit around 12 Xbox One games, once your hard drive is full you need to uninstall games or use an external hard drive to free up space.
1TB is the sensible solution, 500GB is too small in this modern game era of huge installation sizes, I wish I bought a Series X instead of a Series S because of the memory difference!
