Does PS5 Have 1080p? (Does It Work?)

If you own a PS5 or are planning to buy one, you must be asking yourself whether the new PS5 has 1080p. Knowing about the visual output of your PS5 is important to understand what TV resolution it requires.

So let’s find out whether PS5 has a 1080p resolution, shall we?

According to Sony’s Ultimate FAQ, the supported resolutions on PS5 are 720p, 1080i, 1080p, and 2160p and 4K. The PS5 console outputs resolutions of up to native 8K if connected to an 8K display, providing the ultimate gaming experience.

With the release of next-gen gaming consoles such as Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, gaming companies are going far and beyond to offer that perfect immersive gaming experience to players. From faster frame rates to 4K display resolutions, they have it all.

According to Sony’s FAQ page, the PS5 console is also compatible with 8K displays and it will support 8K output resolutions in the future when compatible content is available.

However, if you have a TV that can only support resolutions of up to 1080p you don’t need to worry about it not supporting your PS5. Recently I bought a PS5(see my unboxing) and play 1080p all the time and it looks better than ever, you can see 1080p PS5 gameplay on my channel.

Keep reading to know if PS5 is worth it on 1080p, if PS5 looks good in 1080P and if PS5 looks better than PS4 at 1080p.

Is PS5 Worth It On 1080p?

PS5 is worth it in 1080p as the graphical capabilities are far more impressive than the PS4 and features like haptic feedback, ray tracing, and 3D can all be enjoyed in a 1080p resolution. But 4K resolution (3840 x 2160) will provide a better experience than 1080p (1920 x 1080)

Native 4K at 60 frames per second is only one feature of the PS5, everything about the PS5 is better than the PS4 the eight-core CPU with a 3.5 GHz clock speed makes 1080p look better than ever because of the consoles increases power.

The PS5 has solid state drive is the 825GB NVMe SSD which gives near instant load times and promises to have a transformative impact on how next-gen games will perform in the feature.

What does this mean in normal english? Have you ever had game environments not fully load and just ‘pop’ in? Or characters that load with missing textures?

This only happens with older hardware like the Xbox One and PS4, the sonic speed of the PS5 internal state stops this from happening and allows huge game worlds to be loaded.

Lucky PC gamers have had these speeds for a while, but it’s only with the Xbox Series X/S and PS5 that console gamers had access to drives that are on par with PC gamers. If you NEVER want to wait for a game to load again do yourself a favor and buy a PS5

Wonder if the PS5 is overpriced even at scalper prices? I bought a PS5 from eBay for $970 including Spiderman Miles Morales and I don’t feel ripped off. To see how much the PS5 would be if it was a PC check out my article.

Will PS5 Still Look Good On 1080p?

The PS5 eight-core CPU with 3.5GHz clock speed gives it superb graphical capability so 1080p will look better than ever due to the console’s increased power and improved frame rate. Features like ray-tracing and haptic feedback still work on a 1080p TV.

Regardless of whether you have a 4K or 1080p TV, your PS5 is in itself enough to deliver that stellar visual performance. There have been many visual upgrades in PS5 instant load times and true 4K at 60fps

A noteworthy improvement in the visuals is because of ray tracing in PS5. Ray tracing is an advanced rendering method that reduces your framerate to offer a much improved graphical fidelity. It makes the lights and shadows appear very realistic and true-to-life.

For example, you can now see all the shadows and reflections in the mirrors and water puddles in Spiderman Miles Morales.

To learn more about ray-tracing and how to turn it on for your PS5 check out my article here.

Interestingly, ray tracing also works on 1080p very smoothly. So you don’t need a 4K TV in order to enjoy ray tracing. 4K is just a cherry on top of all the visual enhancements PS5 brings.

I have a 1080p in my room and a 4K TV downstairs, and whilst 4K HDR does look that extra bit special it is not a HUGE difference. Beautiful games will look good no matter what resolution you play them on.

Will PS5 Look Better Than PS4 On 1080p?

The PS5 looks better than PS4 at 1080p as the PS5 CPU is almost 8 times more powerful than PS4, making it render graphics more efficiently than PS4 on 1080p.

PS5 not only boasts a super powerful GPU but also a CPU that allows it to perform way better than the old PS4. Moreover, if you are comparing graphical output, screen resolution is not the sole determining factor. It is not the only factor that determines ‘powerful’ graphics.

If your 1080p TV results look good from a typical viewing distance, then you can rest assured that PS5 would look better than PS4 even on a 1080p TV. Even if you have a 1080p HD TV, you would still be able to see more particles, assets, better lights and shadows on your PS5, which is lightyears better than PS4..
